Maja Escher

Maja Escher lives and works between Lisbon and Monte Novo da Horta dos Colmeeiros. She completed her degree and Master in Multimedia Art at Faculdade Belas Artes de Lisboa. Erasmus Scholarship in London for the School of Architecture and Visual Arts. Waldorf Pedagogy course in Witten_Annen in Germany; Ceramics course and scholarship in Individual Project – at Ar.Co. She regularly participates in artistic residency programs, namely at Oficinas do Convento in Montemor-o-Novo with Qual é a Thing Which Is She? what is it?(2018), in the Participatory Project Mastro dos Vizinhos at Casa da Cerca – Centro de Arte Contemporânea and How to make it rain (in 5 steps) at Worlding in London with the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Recent exhibitions include: CATHARSIS, Bienal Design do Porto, 2023; MATER, with Virgínia Fróis and Marta Castelo, Pavilhão Branco, Galerias Municipalis Lisboa, 2023; WE ONLY ASK YOU TO SOW US IN THE EARTH, with Sérgio Carronha, Monitor Gallery Lisbon, 2022; and ONE DAY IT RAINED EARTH at Galeria Municipal Almada.
